Power Unit Elements

Power-unit allocation is counted per driver: how many of each element have been used against the season legal limit and how many are left before a PU grid penalty.

What the PDFs list

FIA power-unit allocation is read from Technical Delegate PDFs. Those documents are the source of truth for F1 power unit elements, not news and not a third-party tracker.

Two document types feed the table. New PU elements for this Competition lists engine elements first used this weekend. PU elements used per driver up to now is the season-to-date count against the legal limit.

Allocation grain

PU allocation is counted per driver (the seat), not per constructor. Teammates do not share one pool.

Each usage table records how many of a given element that seat has used this season against the legal limit. A replacement is deemed the original driver for usage. The count stays on the seat-holder. The printed cockpit name is a note, not a second allocation.

PU / Elements is the season heatmap: used versus limit per driver and constructor. Weekend NEW units and the inferred PU grid cost stay on the race PU tab.

2026 elements

The 2026 columns are ICE, Turbocharger (TC), MGU-K, Energy Store (ES), Control Electronics (CE), Exhaust (EX), and PU Ancillary (ANC). MGU-H is retired.

  • ICE / TC / Exhaust: 4 of each
  • MGU-K / Energy Store / Control Electronics: 3 of each
  • PU Ancillary: 6

PU grid is not Start

On Pit Trace, bare PU grid means confirmed FIA steward Decision or Infringement rows under sporting article B8.2.8: allocation grid-place penalties. Those rows sit on the race PU Elements tab as PU grid chips (PU grid +N). They are not Start sanctions and they are not parc fermé changes.

Going past the allocation limit on the season heatmap is an inferred cost only. Pit Trace shows that as Inferred +N, Over limit +N, or Inferred PU grid, never as bare PU grid. The first extra of a type costs 10 grid places. Later extras of that type cost 5. Inferred heat is not a steward row until a matching B8.2.8 Decision or Infringement lands.

Steward Start is separate: pit-lane and technical start sanctions. Permission-to-Start eligibility is not Start, and it is not PU grid. Parc fermé changes are locked-car swaps on their own race-page records.
