What is an F1 power unit?

An F1 power unit is the car's whole hybrid drive: the internal combustion engine (ICE) plus turbocharger, exhaust, MGU-K, energy store, control electronics and PU ancillaries. Pit Trace counts how many of each element every driver has used, from FIA documents.

The seven 2026 elements

Pit Trace tracks seven elements. Article B8.2.2 names them ICE, turbochargers (TC), exhaust sets (EXH), energy stores (ES), control electronics (PU-CE), MGU-K, and power unit ancillaries (PU-ANC). The table uses the column names from PU / Elements. The per-driver column shows the FIA's 2026 season limits per driver: the B8.2.2 allocation plus one extra of each element under B8.2.3.

FIA 2026 Formula 1 Regulations, Section B (Sporting), Issue 09, 1 October 2026, Articles B8.2.2 and B8.2.3.

2026 power unit elements and the FIA's 2026 season limits per driver
ElementRolePer driver
ICEInternal combustion engine, including the ancillaries it needs to run.4
Turbocharger (TC)Compressor and turbine assembly that pressure-charges the engine.4
MGU-KRotating machine that turns electrical energy into mechanical energy and mechanical energy back into electrical energy.3
Energy Store (ES)The part of the energy recovery system that stores energy.3
Control Electronics (CE)Electronics that control power unit sub-systems.3
Exhaust (EX)Parts that carry engine exhaust from the cylinder head toward the turbocharger.4
PU Ancillary (ANC)Components that support a main power unit system so it can operate.6

Roles are short readings of Appendix C1. FIA 2026 Formula 1 Regulations, Section C (Technical), Issue 21, 19 October 2026, Appendix C1.

What changed for 2026

The 2026 power unit has no MGU-H. Article C5.2.1 permits only the engine described in Article C5.1, and the ERS-K, to propel the car or recharge energy. Appendix C1 defines the ERS-K as the only part of the energy recovery system allowed to propel the car, made of the MGU-K, the CU-K, and the ERS-K phase conductors.

FIA 2026 Formula 1 Regulations, Section C (Technical), Issue 21, 19 October 2026, Article C5.2.1 and Appendix C1.

Article C5.2.7 limits the absolute electrical DC power of the ERS-K to 350 kW. Appendix C1 defines the ERS-K as the MGU-K, the CU-K, and the ERS-K phase conductors. Article C5.2.8 sets further limits on the electrical DC power used to propel the car. Those limits depend on car speed and on whether Overtake is active.

Who supplies each team in 2026

The supplier is the power unit named on that team's page. The same grouping is on power unit suppliers.

How many power units a driver can use

The FIA's 2026 season limits per driver are the B8.2.2 allocation plus one extra of each element under B8.2.3: ICE 4, TC 4, MGU-K 3, ES 3, CE 3, EX 4 and ANC 6.

FIA 2026 Formula 1 Regulations, Section B (Sporting), Issue 09, 1 October 2026, Articles B8.2.2 and B8.2.3.

The season table is on PU / Elements. The penalties guide lists the confirmed rows.
